Unclaimed Mutual Funds, Fixed Deposits & Insurance Proceeds
Shares are only part of the picture. Mutual fund folios, company deposits, bank accounts and insurance policies fall dormant for exactly the same reasons — and the money sits there waiting.
What we help trace
- Dormant mutual fund folios — units bought years ago, statements stopped, address or bank details outdated. Units are traced across AMCs through the registrars.
- Matured company fixed deposits and debentures where the principal or interest was never collected.
- Inoperative bank accounts and balances transferred to the RBI's Depositor Education and Awareness Fund after ten years of inactivity.
- Unclaimed insurance proceeds — matured endowment policies, survival benefits and death claims never lodged.
- Provident fund and small savings balances left behind after a job or address change.
How these claims work
Each asset class has its own regulator, its own registrar and its own claim form, but the shape of the work is the same: identify the folio or account, prove that you are the holder or the rightful heir, bring the KYC up to date, and file with the institution holding the money.
Where the holder has died, the same succession questions arise as with shares — nomination, will, or legal heir documentation. Because we are usually already assembling those documents for a share claim, extending the same set to cover mutual funds and deposits adds relatively little effort and often recovers a good deal more.
If you are dealing with a deceased relative's estate, do not treat each institution as a separate project. One properly drafted set of succession documents, notarised in sufficient copies, can serve every claim.
Documents usually required
Every Registrar has its own preferences, so treat this as an indicative list. We confirm the exact set for your company and case before you have anything notarised or stamped.
- Any folio numbers, account numbers or policy numbers you can find
- Old statements, passbooks, policy documents or receipts
- PAN, Aadhaar and address proof of the claimant
- Cancelled cheque and bank details for the credit
- For a deceased holder: death certificate, nomination details, will or succession documents
A note on originals. Never post original certificates or succession documents to anyone without a written acknowledgement and tracked courier. Where the process allows, we work from certified copies and only move originals at the point they are genuinely required.
Unclaimed Mutual Funds & Deposits — FAQs
We have no paperwork at all — just a belief that investments exist. Can you help?
Often, yes. Searches can be run against name, PAN and date of birth across registrars and unclaimed-asset databases. It is slower and less certain than a search with a folio number, but it regularly turns up holdings the family had no record of.
Do you handle the tax and estate side as well?
We prepare and file the recovery documentation. For tax filing, capital gains computation and estate planning we work alongside your chartered accountant or advocate, or can refer you to a professional if you do not have one.
Not sure whether you have anything to claim?
Send us the names and we will check the records for you — free, and with no obligation to proceed.
